Eight Bells – Tim Irwin

Sail Canada is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Tim Irwin.

A true staple within the sailing community, Tim was the friendly face all sailors would see during their time at CORK. As one of the founding members of CORK – Sail Kingston, he was always found helping thousands of sailors over the years. It is safe to say that most of these regatta memories involve Tim in some way, always pushing sailors to be the best versions of themselves.

A well-decorated sailor, Tim attended the 1968 Summer Olympics in the Dragon with fellow crew Steve Tupper and Dave Millar. Finishing 4th overall in the waters of Alcapulco in Mexico. His racing knowledge and experience brought him to be one of the torchbearers for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Recognized for many of his talents, Tim was recently awarded the President’s Award at the 2019 Sail Canada Award recipient, for his outstanding contributions to the sport of sailing.

Not only did he take pride in his work with CORK, but he also took his profound racing knowledge and applied it to the programs in the area. A well-respected sailor, and friend that will greatly be missed by all.
